Cold Play in Yellow

You know when you buy something that you fall in love with fast... but it doesn't really match with anything in your closet?

It happened to me when I found these shoes. I'd been scouring high and low for a pair of leopard/animal print stems to add a little "bam" to my step, and these BCBGeneration Secret B peepers were the ones. By the way: if you do a happy dance in the middle of a department store, it means you should buy whatever you're holding.

Outfit:
Fit & Flare Dress - Forever 21
Heart Tights - Topshop

My standard black boots will always be a go-to, but this winter, I want my wardrobe to stay as loud and lively just like my favorite season: summer. Then again, it's been 65 degrees in November in New Jersey. What gives... Of course, the color scheme will change, but I don't think you have to sacrifice what you love to wear just because of the weather. I plan on punching up prints and mixing textures - keep it funky and colorful!

Accessories:
Arty Ring - Modtoast
Henri Bendel Bow Bracelet
Spiked Bracelet - Forever 21

All Black Everything

Well, we all know how the H&M Versace debaucle ended... So I wasn't planning on going out for Black Friday. Until...

... I remembered a contest I won for a JCPenney gift card... and suddenly, Mike and I were determined to use up my winnings on Black Friday to get some stuff for the apartment, and other goodies.

This called for ninja shopping skills at 7 a.m. and of course, proper attire: all black everything. And yes, that is my kitchen.

Outfit:
Knit beret - Target
Scarf - H&M
Leather jacket - Zara
Thermal - Forever 21
Black jeans - Zara
Shoes - Converse

Despite what you'd expect on Black Friday, the crowds were manageable and not overwhelming. I was able to take my time, soak up the bargains and walk out of the mall with bags full of gifts and savings. While I love to sleep, I love a bargain even more.

Check out some of my Black Friday Finds and weekend pics!

Sleep Depravation, Meet Versace by H&M

I had mixed feeling about actually attempting to get my mitts on something from the Versace for H&M collection. Because... you hear about people go as far as camping out for 3 weeks in advance and selling their firstborn and whatnot. Okay, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean.

This quick video sums it up pretty well.

7:45 a.m. Notice the sighing and self-inflicted eye rolling. I commence my master plan to be among the first in New Jersey to shop the collection. This results in a pony tail. Cherish seeing it my friends, cause it's few and far between I go out in public like this.

I had my eye on three items, any of which I'd be happy to have:

Photos courtesy of H&M

8:00 a.m. Arrive at Garden State Plaza on my way to H&M. I spot two girls toting loud shopping bags from H&M. Oversight No. 1 - This mall usually opens at 10 a.m., normally, but Saturday, the store opened early. Oops.

8:05 a.m. Make it to H&M to be greeted with two organized lines, roped off with about 15 security guards in front of the store.... about 75 people deep.

8:10 a.m. Quickly make friends with people standing in front of me and compare "How long have you been waiting" stories. One person tells me someone was here since 10 p.m. last night... some even slept in their cars and came at 6 a.m. Oversight No. 2 - People really did camp out to shop, something I thought only New Yorkers did.

Plus, it gave me time to admire this dudes shoes:

Eventually, an H&M employee comes around with wristbands. I get a white one... marked with a time of 12:25 p.m.

8:45 a.m. Tell myself, "Totally should I slept in."

Meanwhile, people are flying out of the store with multiple bags, sometimes escorted by security guards. Some people say there's stuff left, or nothing left at all. I figure wait it out till I physically can't stand anymore.

About an hour and a half passes before another bystander, aggravated with her wristband time of 11:30 a.m., gives hers to me. It's now 10:15... I'm so close!

So... in the end, I made it out with this:

Filled with this:

No Versace for me. Turns out by the time it was 10:30 a.m., an employee let those with wristbands take a peek at what was left of the collection - meaning, palm tree pants and books. At that point, I was already in the store and my hopes being dashed, I just shopped instead.

All for naught? Not so much. Still shopped and still got a blog post out of it. = )

Mani Monday - Lightning Strikes Twice

Gosh I love me some nail art. I've said it numerous times, but NJ is barren with nail joints that do awesome nail art. I'm always looking for DIY ways to deck out my tallens, so when Adiel from It's Because I Think Too Much showed off her blinged out nails, I ran to find Nail Bliss Bling decals.

I ended up getting plain silver being that I already had 4 bottles of polish in my hand. And I figured it would go with any color I layered them with.

Here's the final product:

The stripes fit my nails exactly, and they were ridiculously easy to apply. Then, I created a lightning bolt on my thumbs for some additional contrast. This is probably one of my most favorite manis to date!

Alive In Wild Paint

For my birthday each year, I usually end up getting a new coat. It's more than appropriate given the weather and outerwear, in my opinion, is the foundation for any Fall outfit. I love military-inspired anything, so when I saw this coat, it fit my perfect ideal of a structured double-breasted coat a la Sgt. Pepper. See - I never escape the music influence... Plus, the ruffle detail on the placket gives it a feminine feel. Hate the cold, love the coat.

Outfit:
Double-breasted military coat by Guess - Macys
Burgundy leggings - Zara
Floral print blouse - Forever 21 (seen below)
Gold spiked bracelet - Forever 21
Double sided gold heart ring - Urban Outfitters
Ankle boots - DSW

Over the weekend, I headed out to take in the colors of Fall in Brookdale Park in Montclair. It's one of my favorite places because it's walking path is lined with foliage - all of which are lovely no matter what seasons.

While I refused to sit in a pile of leaves (f-that, I'm not getting a bug in my hair), I did collect a couple of leaves which I plan on using for leaf rubbings as art in my apartment. I guess some traditions as a child never get old...

Wearing England

It''ll be a year since I've seen my family in England. Mike and I visited for Christmas, but we won't be going out there this year. That doesn't stop me from thinking about my family and how much I really love my visits across the pond.

Outfit:
Floral print peasant dress - Miss Selfridge
Black leggings - Hue
Lace-up combat boots - Steve Madden (bought last year, similar style here)
Pam quilted mini satchel - gift from UrbanExpressions.com
Rings - Stone Agate Ring - H&M - Black Onyx Ring - Etsy

While my first favorite thing about England is my family, my second is shopping. Wow, shocker right? Stores like Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins, and the place where I bought this dress, Miss Selfridge are among the stores I always need to stop in.

Some people buy souvenirs when they're vacationing. For me, its clothes.

I own nothing like it,  and knew I wouldn't find it back home . Plus, I can wear a dress any day. So glad I bought this little frock home with me...

The combat boots where also bought last year solely for my UK trip - I needed something warm and stylish, and I thought the boots has a British military vibe.

Maybe I was British in another life?

The Perfect Purple Jeans

My favorite color is purple, and I do not discriminate in the forms of clothing it comes in. Shirts, skirts, socks... jeans. I bought these skinny jeans a year ago on sale at Urban Outfitters and have been waiting for the colored jeans trend to pick up ever since. Luckily, this year it exploded... so now I don't look so much like Grimace anymore.

Outfit:
Leather motorcycle jacket - Zara (similar style here)
Floral print shirt - Urban Outfitters
Purple jeans - Urban Outfitters
Patent leather wedge boots - Modcloth.com
Spiked and studded leather bag - Zara
Tortoise shell sunnies - Forever 21

Plus, they had a hipster chic vibe to them. Music is a huge influence on my style. I just feel like people in the music community dress in a similar fashion... and for me, it was a huge part of my life for 10 years as a music journalist, and it still is today. I never saw a pyramid studded anything or leather jacket I didn't like. Plus, I absolutely love the look of something rough against something really feminine.

Or perhaps I'm just liking this outfit because of my freshly dyed hair?

Wish Lists Are Called Wish Lists For A Reason...

Hey there, party people. Just a short post before I kick off my birthday weekend celebrations this Sunday. And no, I'm not telling you how old I'll be... I'll give you one hint though... it's a double digit.

And there are a couple of things I'd be happy receiving as gifts. Gee, can you guess which one I really would want the most?

Happy Birthday

A little Chanel, perhaps a Melie Bianco bag... some JC Lita's? Um... yeah.. I think we know which is my obvious choice (I apologize to my husband in advance).

I wish I could give you a preview as to my outfit, but it's still up in the air. I'm thinking dress, but I'm also leaning toward faux leather pants... Biker birthday? Not so much.

Reviving The Classics

Although I'm a girl who wouldn't classify herself as having "classic" style, I do love a lot of old school, traditional things that have been around in fashion for years. And for me, this outfit is a combo of some of em.

Let's start with the mary jane - my shoes have the classic shape but with a modern twist a la a tie and a wedge. Next, women have been sporting animal prints since God knows when. For me, I like color variation on a classic animal print, and the cut is my tee is little boxier than a regular tee. Finally, red lipstick. Though finding the right shade for my skin tone took some time, it's officially inducted into my makeup bag. This classic color goes back as far a Cleopatra, and even Queen Elizabeth I wore the crimson shade. The one I'm wearing came from my visit at Bobbi Brown's Studio in Montclair, NJ (which I'll tell you about later)!

Outfit:
Animal print tee - Forever 21
Grey midi skirt - Aritzia
Mary Jane wedges - Office UK
Spiked leather satchel - Zara
Floral necklace - Accessorize
Arm Party - Henri Bendi Rockstar Wrap Bracelet and Pyramid Studded Bracelet Forever 21

All classic things with modern twists. Eclectic chic, perhaps? Okay, so I'm not re-inviting the wheel but I like to think I have my own unique way of taking dino classics and updating em. That's what I love about fashion blogging... being able to take something that inspires you and rock it your way. Do you, bro.
