Gold Dust Woman with LuLu*s

nj fashion bloggers house of jeffers blog | www.houseofjeffers.com

I definitely don't hide the fact that music is a big influence on my style. Among all the looks I pull together, the ones that have nods to music icons like Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and Deborah Harry are my favorite.

I'm feeling especially gypsy-like in this black knit turban that I paired with the warmest, coziest, and let's face it, pretty damn amazing Aztec printed wrap sweater and 4 buckle Bamboo Sharpay ankle booties from LuLu*s. The gold metal tips and gold buckles on the booties have an 80s feel to them while the sweater makes me want to get my Stevie Nicks "Gold Dust Woman" on. Pun intended.

Stevie Nicks loved her some funky head shawls and slouchy berets in the 70s, then went into a whole indulgent glam rock vibe for the 80s. I'm a fan of the later purely on the fact that platforms were practically invented during the disco era.

At the core, my outfit started with a basic tee and jeans, but layered with pieces that have so much umph and texture, I love how it turned out. I wore this for a day of shopping, lunching and just plain ol' cold weather.

Plaid Pairings

tommy hiilfiger shirt on house of jeffers blog | www.houseofjeffers.com

I still remember the first plaid shirt I had. It was 1992, I was in the 7th grade, and grunge was THE look. I was still a bit of a tomboy back then, but I had a perm (my god).

Not a traditional button-up, the shirt was a pullover and had a drawstring waist. A mixture of dark colors, royal blue and a plum purple were flanked by standard red plaid lines. I loved it. I wore it till the wash eventually had its way with the colors.

I still adore plaid today since it's probably one of the most diverse wovens. From traditional tartan to hypnotic combinations of woven wool, I own a lot of plaid because you really can wear it with anything. Jeans, leather leggings, other plaids. And it reminds me of British royalty (one can dream).

Recently, Tommy Hilfiger, one of the most iconic brands in my book, opened a brand new store at my local Garden State Plaza Mall, and I was invited to check it out. The first thing that came to mind about the brand: magazine ads from the 90s, which often included classic plaids, refined knitwear and nostalgic-inspired style staples with modern appeal. By all accounts, I'd say that fits the House Of Jeffers style equation.

Besides for the store being so inviting, I loved how vibrant the clothes are. I choose these two plaids because they're enhanced by neons (the skirt) and stripes (the button-up blouse). While I didn't plan on wearing them together, when I put the outfit on, I immediately loved the juxtaposition of color.

Sponsored Post: The Hunt App for iPhone

Shopping is absolutely a sport in my book. The fun of going to a store and hunting down a certain dress, top, bracelet - it's definitely a challenge. But sometimes, you have one certain item in mind, but you've done hours of searching only to come up empty handed.

This is why I love the The Hunt app for iPhone. Instead of being a super sleuth all on your own, The Hunt gives you access to a legion of other fashionistas to be your eyes in the field while you track down the item of your dreams.

Members can submit pictures of what they're looking for, or, leave links to the things others are on the hunt for.  It's perfect for people who love the thrill of the chase... especially when it comes to outfit envy. I personally like helping people with their finds.

You can even buy an item, vote on whether or not the find is a gem, and of course, find and follow other fashion bloggers, too! Here's a glimpse of my House Of Jeffers profile on The Hunt.

The Hunt app is absolutely FREE in the iTunes store, and was just relaunched with a snazzy new look and feel! Happy Hunting!

Weekend Wears: Knit Wit

house of jeffers nj fashion blogs | www.houseofjeffers.com

First snow, then a dreary Sunday... Wow, New Jersey, you're really on a roll.

But, Fall weather doesn't mess up my fashion game. The weekends either mean A.) getting really dolled up and going for the gusto with the things I can't wear to work or B.) kicking it casual.

I opted for option B in a lazy knit cardigan, matching cotton tee and the chicest waxed suede Guiliana booties from Sole Society's Julianne Hough collection. These are the first pair of grey booties I've ever owned, and I have to say, black might have some competition. Matchy matchy on the outfit - yes, please!

I live for my weekends. Although I'll say that I'm a lot more mellow now that I'm settling into my new job. The weekend is really all about being with my family, going shopping (of course), enjoying a martini and occasionally, curling my hair. Only four more days till Friday, but who's counting.

Roses Are Red

Never one to turn down a graphic print, this rose print dress from Forever21 is tea party worthy. Okay, so I have never actually been to a tea party, but does drinking tea on the daily with my Brit count?

I'm not sure how often I'll be wearing dresses now that it's dropped to 40 degrees in New Jersey. I got away with wearing this dress without a jacket on the weekend when during a brief warm front. But, I don't want to give up on my frocks completely.

Dresses, to me, are instant style makeover pieces in the sense that I can wear pants all week, but the minute I put on a dress - it's like I've rediscovered my girly side. For me, I love styling uber feminine dresses and incorporating darker, rougher elements for contrast. There's just something about these Mary Janes from Shoedazzle that remind me of ridiculously high Gothic shoes dominatrix wear... Not that I'd know what they wear. It's probably the laces...

Wait, how'd I go from tea parties to dominatrix?

Feeling Lovely in LuLu*s

house of jeffers blog nj | www.houseofjeffers.com

November is turning out to be a month of newness for me. In just the first week, I started a new job and celebrated another birthday. Off to a giddy start, one of which I hope to continue on my style journey.

It's officially jacket weather in New Jersey, and boy do I have the perfect one for it. On a trip to New York after LuckyFABB, I attended an intimate gathering with LuLu*s where I finally got to meet Julie of Orchid Grey (she is as fab as you think she is), and the adorably rad ladies of LuLu*s. At the event, I was gifted this amazing black jacket with faux fur trim that has become my official fall coat. I normally don't use belts with coats, but when I tie this one, it takes on a vintage classic feel that instantly adds femininity to anything I pair with it.

A coat this chic deserves to be photographed in a place of equal beauty. All week, I've driven past this gorgeous field of yellow leaves on my way to work, and knew I had to take photos there for the blog. For some reason, I felt like twirling... I mean, when you're wearing something you love, and you're in a place this beautiful, it's only appropriate!

Fall Spotlight Style: Oxfords

Womens Oxford Shoes | www.houseofjeffers.com

Oxfords, brogues... Whatever you call them, I love mine. Although Fall is typically a time when women live in booties, I find myself wearing oxfords any chance I get.

Oxfords have deep roots in menswear, hence, the reason why you'll see either name when shopping for a pair. AND, the reason why some women shy away from em. A classic oxford is usually leather and features a round toe.

However, ladies, you can get in on this menswear turned womens wear fad thanks to prints, details, metallic leather, and even wedge and heel versions! If there's any season to try out oxford shoes, it's Fall. Trust me on this...
