Fall Nail Colors for 2014

Fall Nail Colors 2014

With the changing of the seasons, comes a need to change up your wardrobe... and nail game. Sure, the neons were totally apropos for summer, and pastels turned your hands into spirit fingers... But now, it's time to look to the darker side of things as you pair flannels, booties and those favorite ripped jeans with that jacket you've been dying to wear.

Fall nail colors match the traditional dark mood of the season, as brands, and even designer nail polish collaborations like 3.1 Phillip Lim for NARS, are cranking out hues that still relate to the primary color chart, yet have a sleeker, starker appearance.

You can still wear you favorite color  - in a muskier shade.

 * Instead of a cherry red nail polish, try a roasted red a la Zoya's Pepper.

* Blue gets the royal treatment, creating a bold nail color look. Jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher has teamed up with RBG to create a line of polishes that are sure to appeal to your tendency to choose nail polish based off your jewelry routine. Momma is a deep, deep, royal blue that'll look awesome with a leather jacket.

Or, if you still like lighter shades, colors like purple, green and pink will all do. Knit sweaters paired with a polished mani pull your outfit together, and just make those dry hands look like you've actually paid some attention to them.

Back to the Start

Floral Print Dress, Chanel Inspired Bag, Coach Shoes | House Of Jeffers, a fashion blog from a New Jersey point of view

After some long periods of radio silence on my blog, I'm back! I had to take some time off to take care of me... Everything is good, but there comes a point when you need to take a break from social media. But, I'm getting back into the swing of things, and hope you're still here to follow me along!

One thing I didn't take a break from in the past couple of weeks was my fashion game. You know I could never really say no to shopping, or being forever on the hunt for my next favorite dress. Well, I think I found it! I love this trompe l'oeil printed dress that I bought at Forever 21. It's a mixture of cherry blossoms and stripes. In other words - it's a "Jen dress".

To emphasize the pattern of the dress, I applied this Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips. I applied this on a Friday night, and no joke, 12 day later, they looked like they were only on day 1. Officially hooked! Plus, with fall upon us, I'm going to have to change up my nail routine.

Be on the lookout for a post about my top picks for fall nail colors!

In the meantime, throw on a cardigan and enjoy the cooler weather!

How to Avoid Getting FOMO During NYFW

New York Fashion Week kicks this week! For many, getting to attend the event is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is full of action... and sore feet. I've been lucky to live in New Jersey, and have the convenience of hopping on a train to New York to spend some time at Lincoln Center to take in a show or just people watch - which is honestly, one of the best parts.

But, this year, I won't be attending since I haven't been feeling well. And I am all too familiar with the exhaustion and hecticness that NYFW brings. I'll have to sit this one out, and watch from the sidelines... which opens the door to developing a serious case of FOMO = Fear of missing out.

And perhaps you're starting to develop a case of feeling left out of the crowd because you can't be at New York Fashion Week. I know I have, since the number of #NYFW tweets on Twitter have started to fill my feed.

But fear not! You can still keep up with the action from afar.

Here's my suggestions on how to avoid FOMO during NYFW

1. Watch the live feeds - Check out the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Website and stream shows anytime you want! Best seat in the house - guaranteed! They often re-run the shows in case you tune in a little late. A schedule of the NYFW shows is available now so you can reserve your spot on your computer!

2. For picture perfect galleries of runway shows, Style.com is my go-to. They always have amazing photos that bring you front row and center to the action.

3. Go shopping as if you were looking for the perfect NYFW outfit... then wear it to work or for a night out.

4. Get inspired by the street style! While the runway shows are a huge part of what makes fashion week exciting, the audience at Lincoln Center is just as enthralling. Keep watch of what attendees are wearing on sites like:

5. Sulk about it over a bunch of fashion magazines. Try not to get your tears all over the pages.

6. For up-to-the minute exclusives, and truly unique perspectives, the #NYFW and #MBFW hashtags are your friends. Whether you love Twitter or Instagram, there will be an overload of images to give you your NYFW fix.

7. Avoid it all together. While I want to be in-the-know, sometimes, it can be overwhelming to be bombarded by NYFW news on every single social media feed. For that reason, tuning out might elevate the pity party associated with not attending. But don't you dare feel bad that you can't attend because you work, or couldn't take time off, or couldn't afford to go - fashion week isn't going anywhere. You'll get your moment to attend in person!
