Kicks and Kimonos

Outfit:
Geisha Feather Jacket - c/o Urban1972.com
Black Tank - Old Navy
BDG Cigarette Leg Skinny Jeans - Urban Outfitters
Michael Antonio Carina Wedge - c/o Michael Antonio
Gold Chain Link Turquoise Bracelet - Charming Charlie
Shell Dove Necklace - Urban Outfitters

Kimonos are some of the most beautiful garments made, I think. The detailing and tapestry of their colors is rich in culture and pride, and growing up, I was enthralled with Japan culture and the art of the geisha. I never made it to Japan or China (a life goal of mine), but I still admire their beauty from afar.

When I received this kimono-inspired cardigan, it's silky sheen reminded me of my times in Chinatown in New York, and how I always wanted a real kimono. I never got around to buying one, but I'd like to think that this is my modern take on a kimono.

And my shoes - talk about shoe-gasm. I own nothing like these Michael Antonio shoes. Prints on shoes can be hard to pull off with other textiles in an outfit, but because of the contrast between the black and white mixed with orange flowers, these stems compliment my cardigan, and fit in perfectly with my spring wardrobe!

And yes, I absolutely used these for my Instagram #AprilWalkInMyShoes Challenge... which you can still participate in!

April Walk In My Shoes Photo Challenge on Instagram

You know you do it... take photos of your shoes with your iPhone. I do it for some daily fashion P.O.V. perspective, which I eventually post to on Instagram.

Looking at photos from some people I follow, the phrase "walk a mile in someone's shoes" came to mind. The straight-forward adage really did make me wonder what else is going on outside of my world.

And when you think about it, you really do put your shoes to work. I have shoes that have taken me to England, Cape Cod, New York... and they're memory makers to me.

So, I'd like to encourage you to join me my April Walk In My Shoes Photo Challenge on Instagram!

The Rules
Starting April 1, I'll post a photo from my perspective of my shoes standing somewhere  everyday with the hash tag #aprilwalkinmyshoes and post it to Instagram. You can follow me @houseofjeffers to see my pics - and so I can follow you, as well!

I hope you'll join me - and I can't wait to see where your shoes take you!

All Black Everything

Well, we all know how the H&M Versace debaucle ended... So I wasn't planning on going out for Black Friday. Until...

... I remembered a contest I won for a JCPenney gift card... and suddenly, Mike and I were determined to use up my winnings on Black Friday to get some stuff for the apartment, and other goodies.

This called for ninja shopping skills at 7 a.m. and of course, proper attire: all black everything. And yes, that is my kitchen.

Outfit:
Knit beret - Target
Scarf - H&M
Leather jacket - Zara
Thermal - Forever 21
Black jeans - Zara
Shoes - Converse

Despite what you'd expect on Black Friday, the crowds were manageable and not overwhelming. I was able to take my time, soak up the bargains and walk out of the mall with bags full of gifts and savings. While I love to sleep, I love a bargain even more.

Check out some of my Black Friday Finds and weekend pics!
