British Bits: River Island's Ankle Boot Collection

Ankle boots have become a style staple that's sticking around well past the winter. Once I find a pair I love, I find myself not wanting to put them away when the warmer weather kicks in... And now, I don't have to.

So when River Island, (yes, the River Island that is across the pond, and is now, making their way to the U.S.) challenged me to pair some of their ankle boot styles from their latest collection, I couldn't wait! Since ankle boots are completely appropriate this time of year, why not work them into your wardrobe for the Spring, too?

Check out my stylish options for making the transition from season to season with ankle boots - to Valentine's Days and beyond!

A chunky ankle boot is so versatile. Tuck your pants in, or leave em out when you strut it out in these rocker-inspired shoes. I personally love wearing a high platform ankle boot with uber girly dresses in the winter for a bit of cheeky style.

Ah, the pointed ankle boot. It really doesn't get any more feminine than a black shoe... These River Island shoes feature a peek-a-boo, cut-out vamp that makes this stunner look sassy and sleek. And, they really do go well with everything in your closet. Skirts, pants, dresses, casual looks, night-out ensembles... I'd slip these killers on on Valentine's Day for a sultry vibe paired with all of the above (which you find all on the River Island site)!

Mini Handbags With Big Appeal

new chic

The little black dress is without a doubt the most traditional wardrobe staple you could ever own. It's like Wonder Bread for your closet. Black goes with everything, and a black dress lends itself to being played up with accessories, jewelry, and handbags. While the LBD dress trend isn't new, mini handbags are the latest handbag trend to be born. They're just so damn cute.

If you opt to get in on the mini handbag trend, I say go with something that really stands out among your other handbags. We all own a black handbag, but why not  let your wardrobe taste the rainbow, too?

You know I don't like to do anything normal… so if I'm going to invest in a mini handbag this year, it has to be bright, bold and look dope against my manicures.

Here Comes The Sun

What I'm Wearing:
Neon Roll-Sleeve Blouse - Old Navy (similar style here)
Neon 80s Abstract Mini Skirt - Forever 21
Black Studded Tote - Primark UK
Etienne Aigner Coral Vision Wedges - Marshalls

Oh neon... how I love thee. Let me count the shirts in my closet...

This year, I've really done my best to expand my wardrobe in terms of colors or prints I might not usually pick. My strategy is simple: keep an open mind, and perhaps try garments that I think might look strange on the hanger. Turns out the theory is proving to be successful. I've been using to find new wardrobe options and the results: sometimes things look better on YOU than on the hanger.

Accessories:
Rings - my own
Necklace - ?
Polished Brass Bangle - J. Crew
Gold Chain Bangle - Forever 21
Hammered Geometric Neon Pink Bracelet - Charming Charlie

Take neons for example. Obnoxious? Maybe, but they are great investment pieces. My shirt, from Old Navy, can be worn during multiple seasons due to the roll-tab sleeves, to work or for a night out... and can transition into my winter wardrobe during those blah weather moments.

This is not the last you'll see of these neon colors revived from the 80s. Now that I think of it - this is rather age appropriate being that I'm a child of the 80s.
