Valentine's Day Outfit Ideas

Valentine's Day is the perfect holiday to get a little over the top with your outfit. The unofficial official celebration of wearing pink and red, I have a penchant for taking things a bit literal for my V-Day outfit whether it be a printed heart sweater, signature red shoes or a  pink neon lip.

Yet while the holiday is all about love, there's one thing about it that makes me a little sad - the weather. Currently, with piles of snow on the ground and freezing temperatures, it can be challenging to style yourself in a look that you love, but the weather won't let you get away with. Are you really going to wear platforms as you traipse over salty sidewalks?You can... I'll get to that in a minute...*

However, you can still wear your favorite love-inspired pieces by adding layers. Pair that Pop Champagne graphic tee with a red plaid skirt and a leather jacket that's light enough to wear indoors, but warm enough to keep you from freezing. *And those red pumps - just change your shoes after you've sat down for dinner.

Or, opt to go warm and cozy with your favorite skinny jeans, a layered lace shirt and an ultra bright pink jacket. If you feel like you're too bundled up, let your accessories be the standout, like this Shut Up and Kiss Me Clutch from Express, or put on your best red lipstick!

British Bits: River Island's Ankle Boot Collection

Ankle boots have become a style staple that's sticking around well past the winter. Once I find a pair I love, I find myself not wanting to put them away when the warmer weather kicks in... And now, I don't have to.

So when River Island, (yes, the River Island that is across the pond, and is now, making their way to the U.S.) challenged me to pair some of their ankle boot styles from their latest collection, I couldn't wait! Since ankle boots are completely appropriate this time of year, why not work them into your wardrobe for the Spring, too?

A chunky ankle boot is so versatile. Tuck your pants in, or leave em out when you strut it out in these rocker-inspired shoes. I personally love wearing a high platform ankle boot with uber girly dresses in the winter for a bit of cheeky style.

         

Ah, the pointed ankle boot. It really doesn't get any more feminine than a black shoe... These River Island shoes feature a peek-a-boo, cut-out vamp that makes this stunner look sassy and sleek. And, they really do go well with everything in your closet. Skirts, pants, dresses, casual looks, night-out ensembles... Heart-Filled Steps

I like to keep things around me throughout my house that remind me of some of the things that inspire me. Among some of my favorite books (obviously, Alexa Chung is a huge icon to me), and all the glitter adorned knick-knacks, I like to display a pair of shoes on an end table. I always liked the look of shoes as an art piece, and these Loly in the sky Amy L. flats are absolutely something to admire.

Even though the snow is pelting New Jersey with snow as I type, and I need to keep these Lolies for safe keeping until the weather improves, I'm absolutely in love these flats. So feminine, so girly... and just so special. They're uber soft and I know they're going to look right at home on my feet this Spring. Plus, let me just say that these should be the official shoe of Valentine's Day!

I'm one of those people that absolutely gets swept up in Valentine's Day... The novelty of all things heart-related, an excuse to go a little overboard with heart-decorated anything and of course, showing lots of love!
