I'm Just A Girl

I wasn't always this girly. In my teen years, the idea of wearing pink used to make me dry heave, and skirts were reserved for family functions. Eventually, I went into estrogen overdrive and realized that a little eye-liner never hurt nobody.

Being uber girl is so much fun. Nail polish. Flat irons. Purse shopping. Wearing a pea coat with leggings and grey wedge shoes to a park. I'm sorry, but boys, you're missing out on some fun s#$@.

Lately, I've been excited at the thought of starting my own business. I'm a huge believer in "be your own boss", and while my idea might not make me Man Repeller money, it'll let me take my knack for nail art in a new direction. Speaking of which, the bows on my mani are not stickers (totally bragging, btw). Yours truly whipped those up herself.

This weekend, I kicked it super old school for these photos.

My husband couldn't help me take photos, so I had to dust off my tripod and go back to the days when I used to take my pictures myself. Not my preference, but it did make me appreciate the fact that I have someone who I can depend on to take photos for me.

Originally, I used to take all of my pictures myself on my lunch breaks at my old job. I scouted out a bunch of parks and playgrounds where I felt the embarrassment factor wouldn't be too high, and would take my outfit shots during the day. And back then, I didn't have a tripod. I'd just balance my camera anywhere.

Oh the woes of being a fashion blogger.

And since I'm flying to England this Friday, things have been crazy. I've struggled to keep up with House Of Jeffers as I prepare for my trip. Between packing, after-work commitments, and work... I absolutely need some time away from the desk in every capacity.

But fear not! I've lined up some awesome fashion bloggers who are kind enough to keep House Of Jeffers going while I'm away!

Up Close in Philly with Van Gogh's Ear

Philadelphia is one of my favorite cities, and as close as I live to it, I don't visit as much I should. The arts, culture, history and overall atmosphere is something to experience.

I'd heard about the Van Gogh Up Close exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, so my best friend, who happens to be an art teacher, and I decided to make a trip of it.

Photos weren't allowed in the exhibit, but to see his paintings up close - some of which you can step right up to and really let your eye dissect - is amazing. For such a tortured soul, he created beauty, definitely an irony of his life. Oh, and his ear wasn't on display... would have been cool though. Just saying.

Of all the periods of art, I'd say modernist, impressionism and pop-art are my personal period favorites. I'd seen photos of Edgar Degas' Little Dancer, but luckily, the statue was on display. I stumbled upon oil paintings by Leon Frederic (second image below), entitled "Four Seasons", which depicts children painted in themes of the four seasons. My photo doesn't do it justice, but the detailing is ridiculously beautiful.

After the exhibit, we grabbed lunch, soaking up Rittenhouse Square and the plethora of shops along Walnut Street, and later hit up some bars at the Piazza and along Market Street. I'd love to live there... in fact, I think I like it better than New York. New York is great, but Philly's speed is more my pace. Looks like I'll have to make more day trips...

The 30-Day No Shopping Challenge Is Back!

I've been bad.

I might have went a little nuts and accidentally bought more shoes than I really needed within the last two weeks. Three to be exact. And... I also might have treated myself to something I've had my eye on for a while...

It started when I needed a pair of transitional winter/spring shoes for when the weather is too cold for flats, but warm enough not to need boots. Eventually, I found em...

So, to counteract my spending, I'm bringing back the 30-Day No Shopping Challenge! Last year, I was successful... but barely made it. This year, I'm upping the ante!

The rules are as follows:
1. Starting March 12, I can not shop for 30 days, or until April 12.
2. At any point, if I buy anything non-essential needed (toiletries, household cleaning items, food, etc.) I must write a post on my blog displaying my shame.
3. I can't buy beauty products that are not essential to my daily grooming and upkeep - This rule is new as I am a nail polish junkie.
4. I cannot convince Mike or anyone else to buy something for me and hold on to it for the remainder of my shopping ban - I tried this on Mike last year, and it sorta worked (he bought me a shirt I was coveting after the 30 days).

And, I'm challenging YOU! Think you can last 30 days without buying anything? I'd love to hear your progress if you take the challenge!

Need. Want. Love. - Spring Shoes: Neons

Unless you've been wearing blinders, neons are officially a part of Spring's biggest trends in 2012. While denim is embracing our favorite colors from the 80s, and it's easy to pull off shocking pink on your nails, neon isn't for everyone.
