Steal Her Style: Stevie Nicks

Steal Her Style: Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks is without a doubt one of music's most talented, and fashionable, songstresses. Her  voice is one of a kind, as is her recognizable style. From ethereal dresses decked out in layers of silk, to gold dust woman gypsy realness, as the frontwoman of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie started a style revolution that 40 years after she stepped out on the stage in platform heels would continue today.

Stevie is a personal hero of mine. She's just one seriously badass lady. If there's such a thing as reincarnation, I want to come back as her.

This summer, I'm going to embrace my inner white winged dove and go all gypsy, even if I'm not attending a music festival. Replicating her look is easy as boho style has stuck around since Coachella - so recreating her style is easier with summer upon us. The key to creating Stevie Nicks' 70s style is finding pieces that have that have a rockstar vibe, but with vintage appeal.

A fringed kimono or purse, a pair of sky high platform wedges and of course, a white dress that blows in the wind, and you'll feel like you're channeling Stevie's signature style!

What's In My Bag

As much as I swoon over a beautiful handbag that I see on a blog, I am often intrigued by what people keep inside them. Usually, it's some type of trinket or accessory that catches my eye - considering sometimes, the accessory ends up outshining the bag because it's just so darn cool.

So, I decided to share some of what I carry on a daily basis inside my bag. I am a fan of fun-size things that have a Swiss-army knife, be prepared type of mentality. But, by the looks of what's in my bag, I'm prepared for a glitter apocalypse and a shortage of pink lipstick should it happen.

I always have with me:

- A pair of oversized sunglasses. I should get a sunglass case to protect them, but I like to rotate my
glasses to fit my outfit. These tortoise shell ones are my favorites at the moment.

-  Marc by Marc Jacobs Wallet: A gift from my husband during our first Christmas in England. We agreed on small gifts... but I guess we didn't set a monetary amount. This wallet is about 4 years old, and I haven't stopped using it since.

- A British Hair Comb/Mirror Compact: Given to me by my brother and sister-in-law while in England. I spotted it in a shop in Bathe, and they surprised me with it for my birthday.

- Covergirl Powder Compact - Because homegirl can't look shiny.

- My iPhone 5 with uber-sparkly glitter phone case. BAM!

- An array of lipsticks and makeup treats:
1. Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm in Pink Shock

2. Bobby Brown Tinted Eye Brightener: It has a felt-tip brush that can be used under the eyes, or as an on-the-go concealer. Honestly, it's better than stick concealer.

4. NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Yu: This is the color you see me wearing in the majority of my photos. My signature if you will. I panic if this is not in my bag... at all times.

Of course, if I'm going to let my tech gadgets tag along, they need to be dressed in equally adorable style:

URBANEARS Platton Headphones in Pink: I love the look of these old-school inspired headphones. They not only sound amazing, but I wear them when driving since they're equipped with a microphone. And if I happen to forget them, let's just say a day at the office isn't the same without my music fix.

iPad Mini with a Victoria's Secret Pink Crystal Case. One word: Ballin!

Currently Coveting

While fashion does consume most of my thoughts, I have interests outside what you see on House Of Jeffers. I don't talk about them too often, but I was thinking of ways to change it up on the blog, and thought it might be fun to share some of the other things, articles, music, books, etc., that I'm currently coveting! Hopefully, you'll find these things interesting... and will want to check them out!

This week I'm currently coveting...

... the Sophia Webster Kimini. Talk about lovely, these little killers ooze feminity, and need to be mine.

... to start a fashion scrapbook, because the lost art of scrapbooking and ripping pages out of magazines and hanging them on your wall like you did in the 80s is just... cool. Stylecaster's Meghan Blalock wrote a nifty article on how to start your own fashion scrapbook. Sounds like fun to me!

... more sleep.

... a Get Up Kids reunion. If you're not familiar with this band, than you probably weren't emo back in the 90s... or even know what I'm talking about. However, a reunion might not be in sight for the band, but if you like listening to musicians interview other musicians, you might like Matt Pryor's podcast sessions on Nothing To Write Home About (www.ntwha.com). He was the vocalist of The Get Up Kids, and is an amazing solo artist who records his conversations with artists like Jimmy Eat World, Saves the Day and Perma.

... more books. I'm currently reading "An Abundance of Katherines" by John Green, author of "The Fault in our Stars." I'll be honest - the first few chapters in, I really did not like this book. But, as it develops, and the story gets more intricate, it's growing on me. I"m always looking for book suggestions so feel free!

... all the sunglasses in this Refinery 29 best sunglass style article, hand-plucked by Lauren Conrad. Yes, ALL of them.

Loud Pairs

House Of Jeffers Fashion Blog | www.houseofjeffers.com

We all have style comforts. For me, I can sometimes get so wrapped up in my own "creature of habit" ways that I have moments of feeling like my clothes look the same. It happens when you shop in the same stores over time, and get accustomed to wearing particular colors and specific cuts of pants, tops and shoes.

But I'm a sucker for strong details.

There's nothing I love more than pieces that are slightly loud, but yet, clash when paired together. But it has to be done with care. Over do it, and, well... you look like a hot mess. I had my doubts about wearing such a striking teal with an equally exuberant purple. But, leave it to my trusty arsenal of black tights, shoes and handbags to help tie it all together.

Acid Wash Revival

Acid Wash Jeans from Zara, Old Navy Top, Forever 21 Cardigan, Seychelles Shoes on House Of Jeffers | www.houseofjeffers.com

Boy do I feel like a hipster in this outfit. The hat. The fringe. The acid wash jeans - my favorite part.
I was born in the 80s so acid wash denim is in my fashion DNA. Many a pairs did I wear - ripped, dark wash, light wash... Some good. Some terrible. But these pink acid wash jeans from Zara were so, so good that I had to buy a pair in gray, also!

Hipster status in the snow.

I wore this outfit on Saturday, eager to try out a monotone look. Sure, the black sweater is rather predictable for me since the majority of my wardrobe is black. However, I decided to pair similar shades of pink and purple for a perky look. And to think I wore this to breakfast... and to pick up my dog from the vet.

But a funny story about my lipstick. Although this shade is my favorite, and has become a signature for me, it sure does stain. Especially on my dogs. I give them kisses, only for pink splotches to be left behind on their fur. So, Saturday morning, I had to go to the vet to pick up Phoebe from her surgery, and I knew that I was going to smooch her up like crazy... but remembered to wipe my lipstick since I didn't want her looking like a furry pink. I must not have done a good job since regardless of my makeup removal, she was covered in fluorescent pink lipstick. At least she matched me!

Spring Awakening: Trends To Wear in 2014

Spring Awaking

Seriously, you guys, I am utterly, completely, totally over winter. I just refuse to acknowledge its blistering existence. In my mind, I'm already walking around bare legs exposed, pastels ablaze.

With my mind racing with all the things I'd love to wear this Spring, I'm looking to the future weather of warmer days. And while everyone has their own predictions as to what's going to be "it" this year, I have my own style inclinations. Check out my thoughts on what trends, and styles, you should try on for size this Spring...

The color: While I think orange is going to be the new black this year (bad pun intended), pastels will make the rounds again. Neon will still be here, but are going to take a vacation. Don't believe me? Check out Pantone's Fashion Color Report for Spring 2014.

The shoes: At the top of my must-have is Sole Society's cut-out Liesey oxford. It reeks of British flair while also speaking to my inner hipster. However, the resurgence of the printed heel is one trend I can't wait to wear, and is perfect for women of all ages!

The bag: The satchel is getting a makeover, and the brick red Kate Spade Saturday Assembly Satchel is everything. I love the play on a traditional satchel styling, but crafted in waxed cotton and accented with complementary leather handles. All over this bag. Plus, I'm loving the Danielle Nicole cobalt bag from Piperlime.

The prints: Stripes and florals - Do I even need to boast how much I love these prints? Florals aren't anything particularly new, but I sense there's going to be a lot more 70s inspired prints. From tops to pants, you won't go wrong wearing either print.

The accessories: The bolder, the better. The statement necklace will never ever not be a factor. As for sunglasses, the mod-style of plain and simple rounds will become Spring's accessory to have. Think John Lennon's iconic shades in a thicker frame.

I'm Completely Over This Snow

This is my official "I'm completely over this snow" post. I'm not kidding.

In February alone, it has snow almost every 4 days in New Jersey. Sure, it looks pretty when it's falling, but after it's over... it just hangs out like an unwanted house guest. Is this what people in Alaska feel like? Maybe I should learn how to live in an igloo?

While I'm happy in this outfit, considering it has a pop of color,  I'm rocking a beanie, and this Gap sweater is unbelievably warm and snugly, I just miss feeling a bit more girly in my skirts and dresses. And it's hard to be creative in this weather as far as outfit photos go. New Jersey is covered in dirty snow, or what clean snow is left, you can't do anything fun on it.

I attempted to stand on top of the snow, which worked for a hot minute, but then fell through it... Knee deep snow, people. Knee deep.

Oh well, while it's snowy here, I can at least admire all the fashionable ladies attending London Fashion Week at the moment. Have you seen Sophia Webster's collection? My God... I now know why I go to work... To afford shoes like hers.

Bold and Bright-Lipped

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm sorry, but I can't get enough of the holiday. Some people hate it, say it's a commercialized holiday - which, in some ways, it is. But, if that means I get chocolate, can wear more red, and can make a mess with some heart confetti - then I love it!

Typically for V-Day, I'd be decked out in a skirt or dress that reaks of blatantly holiday machismo. But, Mother Nature hates New Jersey this year, and on top of the cold weather, the snow that's been dropped on us is really killing my style vibe. I noticed I've been wearing a lot more black in my outfit posts... Subconsiously, I'm in mourning for the day that I can wear proper tights and frilly skirts.

However, the prism-print dress from Boohoo.com honestly lights up my day. To keep with this love-themed day, I'm finally going to rock my Pixie Market Lips Purse (which was featured in my DIY heart mani post). It was a Christmas gift from my present... Isn't it divine?
