Edgy and Eccentric

Shinymix.com statement necklace, Gap Tee, Forever21 Skirt, Kate Spade New York Jenny Bag, as featured on House Of Jeffers | www.houseofjeffers.com

Although I wouldn't describe my style as traditional in any sense, I do love classic elements in fashion that are timeless pieces a part of many women's wardrobes. Stripes are probably high up on the list, and of course,  a black and white combo is traditional as it get. But since my edgier and eccentric side always makes their way it an outfit, I do see myself trying to experiment with pieces that appeal to other women... but perhaps, I really did not want to wear.

Hey, I'm being honest.

So, in an attempt to think outside of the box, I figured it was time for me to buy a pair of heels.

No, I do not wear simple heels.

I always felt like I looked like the Kebler Elf in them, and besides for the obvious factors of the shoes probably being uncomfortable to walk in and even more terrible to wear all day, I figured "not for me". However, when I bought this amazing ball-gown inspired skirt, it was meant for something different. Normally, wedges would be a go-to (which I still fully support wearing), but the uber feminine aspect of the skirt, and the gorgeous Kate Spade Jenny Bag, needed a shoe with an Audrey Hepburn-esque nod to it.

Hence, a simple and classic pointed heel.

Not bad for a pair of $24 shoes bought at Forever 21. Honestly, they did not kill my feet, were comfortable and not too high - which I think is what was turning me away from heels in the first place. I have no desire to be one of those girls who can't walk in their shoes. But, for my first pair of "big girl" shoes, surprisingly, they grew on me.

Camouflage Chic

You gotta love having a fashion revelation.

For me, it was slipping on these skinny camo cargo pants from Who.A.U. I've long considered the words "skinny camos" to be an oxymoron. Plus, considering their masculine roots, I thought they might look too... gritty... even for me.

But after standing in front of mirror, and uncontrollably doing the "Happy Dance", I'm a believer. I absolutely LOVE this pants! They look awesome with my many black combat wedge boots, and with this uber warm knit sweater (also from Who.A.U), how could this not be meant to be?

And if I'm gearing up for some holiday madness wearing these pants, I need to have some heavy artillery a la this beyond stunning Shielded Crystal Necklace from Sorrelli. Seriously, I can't handle how beautiful this stunner is.

Plus, since I'm on this new kick, I'm venturing into animal print sunnies. This lightweight frames from Fantas-Eyes felt right at home under my bangs.

Weekend Wears: City Stripes

nyc fashion bloggers | house of jeffers.com

Although I've lived in New Jersey my entire life, I've only visited certain parts of New York in the past four years due to my husband's job. On Sunday, Mike, Harley and I woke up way too early and headed to Randall's Island for a day of soccer, and the potential to go shopping in the city afterwards. With the weather being on the cooler side, I finally broke out this silk trimmed striped top I purchased at Marshalls!

And yes, Harley is wearing an England soccer jersey.

Us New Jerseyians absolutely take for granted how close we live to NYC. This was my first trip out to Randall's Island, and I have to say it's been a long time coming. I had no idea it was that big, and honestly, that pretty. During Mike's games, I explored the park with Harley and enjoyed breezy views of the East River.

In my younger days, I never really had someone to explore the city with, and going to New York was viewed more like a hassle to get to. But being married to Brit means being with someone who wants to see various parts of the U.S. - can't complain.

On Day 4 of New York Fashion Week, I hopped on a train from New Jersey to get my dose of Lincoln Center and all that NYFW has to offer. And of course you know I had to wear something striped... and something leather!

While I didn't attend any shows, I had plans to attend the RewardStyle party at the Empire Hotel in the afternoon, and caught up with the adorably sweet ladies of Sorrelli Jewelry. In between, I channeled my inner Bill Cunningham for some NYFW street style photos.

One of the highlights of the day was being photographed and interviewed about my bangs  (I'm not kidding) by Candice Lake for a Tresemme feature! She is so lovely, and I have a new found respect for her.

All of the eccentricity I love about fashion was in full force at Lincoln Center. Here are some of my favorite looks.

My Blue Heaven

I must admit: I'm getting excited that Fall means it's pants season again. Although admittedly, Fall isn't my favorite season, I'm starting to change my mind since I've purchased a number of printed pants and updated my jeans.

This outfit is very basic, but out of all the the accessories I'm wearing, the tiny Maid Marian braid is my my favorite. It's my way of giving my straight hair an update on the days when I'm feeling a little too plain.

This Sunday, I'll be venturing into the city for New York Fashion Week to take in the excitement, catch up with friends and hopefully, make new ones! Follow me @HouseOf Jeffers on Twitter to keep up with my activities - and if you see me or want to say hi, send me a tweet!

Match Made in Heaven

house of jeffers

Did I match what I wore so Harley and I could be twinsies? No... because I could never outdo Harley in the cool department. Even if I am wearing Jeffery Campbell shoes and a new brown leather skirt.

The saying that dogs and their owners sometimes have similar personalities, I think, is true. While the resemblance between myself and Harley isn't quite there, I think he's my doggie match personality-wise.

He's a little nuts - I consider myself to be a reserved nut job with quirky tendencies. Our barks are most certainly bigger than our bites... but it's safe to not underestimate either in both cases. We love British anything. And, let's face it - we shiver when it's cold outside.

Match made in heaven.

For the weekend, I'm headed to Baltimore for a soccer tournament. Never been to Maryland, but I'm looking forward to visiting another state, and maybe doing some touristy things too. I hear there's a lot of art museums, and the Hippodrome is there, too, so perhaps I'll swing by.

Now... what to pack? Definitely need to bring some sparkle!

Friday Fashion Fix: Polka Dot Blazer

polka dot blazer house of jeffers

In an attempt to be healthier, and to make better lifestyle choices, I joined a gym over the weekend. And I'm not gunna lie - something about it sorta freaks me out. Since moving last year, I honestly haven't met that many people in the town I now live, so I'm hoping joining a gym will perhaps change that... and let me work on my sweet, sweet glutes, too.

I went for the first time last night, and I was the only hipster in the joint... Doubting anyone in there knew who Friendly Fires or Local Natives, are.  Plus, I was the only girl with bangs - that part I actually enjoyed.

We'll see how it goes. Since I'm not trying to lose weight or get buff or anything, it was more of a make better health decisions choice. Just as long as it doesn't interfere with my online shopping time...

Oh, and I guess it's officially Polka Dot Week on House Of Jeffers! For this week's Friday Fashion Fix, I went with a laid back look with subtle contrast in patterns between the polka dot blazer and striped top... And of course, you know I had to bring in something bright with my red lipstick.

Friday Fashion Fix: Galaxy Chic

As you read this, a pair of limited edition galaxy print leggings I ordered from Romwe.com are on their way to me. I can't WAIT to slap em on!

And with fall coming up, you'll find me rocking pants  - a lot. Listen, as someone who shakes like a chihuahua when it's cold out, I'll take as many pants options as I can get. I was on the fence about buying the leggings, being that trends come and go, but I'm willing to take the risk for the $24 bucks I paid for em.

The one's below look similar, but you'll see... In the meantime, I'll have to create of outfits to wear em with... like the ones below.

Embellished tank top / Rick Owens jacket / River Island pink blazer, $63 / Patterned legging / Lanvin lace up booties / Platform shoes / Leather shoulder bag / DANNIJO jewelry / Necklace / H&M metal ring, $4.69 / Yves Saint Laurent matte eyeshadow / NARS Cosmetics summer nail polish, $21

Safari Chic

Before I get into anything else, who's going to LuckyFABB in September!? I'll be there!

What Jen's Wearing:
Elephant Print Safari Tank - Forever 21
Pleated Maxi Skirt - c/o Urban1972
Yellow Braided Wooden Heels - Gap
Gold Necklace, from the MiMi Gilded Lily Collection - c/o Sorrelli
Triple Band Crystal Ring, from the MiMi Gilded Lily Collection - c/o Sorrelli

I am the LAST person you'd ever find in the jungle... or even camping. I can appreciate nature, and all the fabulous-ness it provides in fashion but anything that causes my bangs to look disheveled, puts me remotely close to bugs... or makes me sweat -  I don't participate in.

No safari excursions for me.

I'll stick to admiring from afar. I love this elephant tank, though. It's light and airy, and has that camo green shade that's tribal.

And the jewelry - also has a link to safaris. My gold, spikey petal necklace is from Sorrelli's Fall MiMi Collection called Gilded Lily. I love that it's got an edge to it (literally) yet features a bit of shine from the tiny crystals. Plus, the ring I'm wearing below is from the same collection, too. Triple bling. Safari chic indeed.

Spiked Bowler Bag - Primark UK
Zebra Bangle - Urban Outfitters
